The Taildraggers
have been formed around the spring of 2001 in the southern parts of The Netherlands. Originally the band was playing mostly styles of bluegrass and hillbilly, without drums. But with the arrival of Tim Mercury as a drummer and some influence of Pascal, the band became more Rockabilly, Hillbilly Boogie & Swing Rock ‘n Roll, which is the main style these days. That’s why The Taildraggers are well-known for their great variety of different 50’s styles that makes it fun and a joy to listen and dance to.That’s why the band’s name was renamed to The Taildraggers, which comes from a type of 50’s cars, being lowered on the backside. Around the summer of 2003 our first CD was released, which was called “Hot Rod Suit”. This album was recorded for Rarity Records in Holland and got some very good reviews in our own country, but also in the rest of Europe. The CD is mostly filled with obscure and rare 50’s rockabilly & rock ‘n roll and some hillbilly tunes en even a couple of bluegrass songs. That’s why this album reflects the first period of the band. Of course, our first self-penned songs are on this CD too. Then, before the spring of 2004, our 2nd album “I Don’t Sound Like Nobody” saw the light. You might say that this one really is very different from the first CD. That’s why we prefer to call this one a project, and not really our 2nd album. We’ve always had our way with unknown Elvis tracks and were already playing some on the gigs. But the best thing to do was to record some of the most unknown and underestimated songs of Elvis we could possibly find. Then we filled the album some more with tunes that Elvis might have recorded or performed on stage once, but all these are rumours. No one ever heard these songs by Elvis actually. Of course every track on the album has been carefully rearranged to our own style and we had some wonderful guest musicians to help us out. This CD got also some of the best reviews in Holland, but also again in the rest of Europe, like Germany, Belgium, France, Scandinavia and even the USA. The Taildraggers giglist is filled with very various gigs, from little bars to big festivals. Well known Dutch rock ‘n roll venues like Caddy’s Diner, Cruise Inn, Charley’s Diner, Lava Lounge and more. But also lots of Dutch festivals like Rock Around Giethoorn, Rock ‘n Roll Akersloot, 50’s Heaven Festival, Rockin’ Valley Festival, Car & Rockabilly Rumble. Also a great deal of European gigs is on the list like the Bedrock Festival Denmark, Rockabilly Earthquake Bremen (Germany), Rockin’ Around Turnhout (Belgium), Summer Jamboree in Italy and Hot Rod Hayride and Rockabilly Rave in the UK and many more..
